You'll see greater detail; the image will be sharper and have higher contrast. When the lens is optimally focused, you will see high contrast in the coarser patterns and maximum detail in the finer patterns. Also, the image as a whole will show a minimum of chromatic artifacts, which are seen as colored fringes on the edges of black lines. The band of colors under the focus pattern can be a handy reference for color matching between scenes or between cameras. The colors are designed to represent the (3) primary and (3) secondary colors, as well as flesh tones.
